School Trip - Westport

Day 1 of our Westport Trip!
Well, what a start to our trip. We arrived at school at 6:45am and we were greeted by snow!
We headed off hoping to find sunnier skies at Westport (given its closer proximity to the equator.) :-)
We arrived after a loooooooonnnnnnnggggggggg journey after countless "Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?" questions.
After arriving at our hotel at 12:30 we were shown to our rooms and had a delicious lunch.
Soon after, we split into our groups and did aeroball, the climbing wall and archery. Everybody took part in all of the activities. The children learned new skills and had great fun!
We had a dinner of pasta or turkey dinner which the children really enjoyed after all the adventure. After dinner they took part in some team games before getting ready for bed.
They all fell asleep at 9pm precisely like we asked them to.......... Well not quite!!! After a bit of chat, snacks and TV the children settled well.

Day 2 of our Westport Trip:
After a restful night we all arose ready for another day of action. We all had a tasty breakfast to keep us going and we got ourselves ready for surfing. We had a short bus trip to the seaside and as we arrived we could see huge waves crashing onto the beach so some people were a little worried.
Our instructor Elvis was really helpful and he showed us how to surf and keep ourselves safe. It was very windy and cold so some members of the group decided to spectate rather than participate. After a short spell in the baltic water, most of the surfers called it a day and opted for putting on their warm clothes and getting back on the heated bus. Four brave souls stayed in the water, perfecting their surfing skills for quite a while... very impressive...
We were all ready for lunch after all that drama and it was delicious. After lunch, we pulled ourselves back into our wetsuits (literally) and walked down to the lake near our hotel for a kayaking lesson. Everyone had a go at kayaking and some people in the group even ventured into the water at the end. We were all looking forward to a nice, hot shower after all that cold water. A strict shower rota was drawn up in each room (sometimes created using rock, paper, scissors) and this must have worked as everyone was ready early and we even had time to visit the shop before dinner.
The shop we visited was the local Centra and the children were very enthusiastic - the local residents thought that these excited children had never seen a shop before! It seemed to resemble a very competitive episode of Supermarket Sweep... Eventually, when everyone had spent as much of their spending money as they could sometimes down to the last cent which showed off wonderful mental maths skills (thanks for that Mrs McClelland ;) ) we returned to the hotel for our dinner.
After dinner the children took part in some fun activities including protecting an egg. Once again, after these activities finished the children had a chance to phone home and they began the task of packing to go home. Rooms were inspected before bed and generally the standards were high. The children were allowed a little relaxing time before lights were turned off and they went to sleep to get ready for another exciting day tomorrow.
